16th February 2014 ReSoLVE
Attending a meeting of the Finnish ReSoLVE group in Kuusamo. The project has the ambitious objective of bringing together modelling and
observation linking the solar dynamo, through the generation and prediction of solar activity to anticpating space weather and its impact on the Earth's atmosphere.
NAM Session Nomination
Our proposal to host a session at the National Astronomy Meeting in Portsmouth, June 23rd-26th, 2014 has been approved. I am co-chair with Dr. Stephane Regnier (Lancs), and the session is "Observation and modelling of the dynamic chromosphere". The joint organisers are Dr. Eamonn Scullion (Trinity, Dublin), Dr. Karen Meyer (St. Andrews), Dr. Vasco Henriques (Queens, Belfast), Prof. Robertus von Fey Siebenburgen (Sheffield) and Prof. Gerry Doyle (Armagh Obs.).
19th December 2013 solarwavetheory.blogspot.co.uk
Mike Griffiths added a nice summary of the contents of the November 8th seminar and additional background at solarwavetheory. Thanks Mike.
27th November 2013 - Paper II
Submitted to Monthly Notices a paper on the magnetohydrostatic background equilibrium for multiple magnetic flux tubes in a realistic stratified solar atmosphere. Co-authors Viktor and Robertus.
8th November 2013 - Solar physics seminar
I shall be presenting results on the magnetohydrostatic background equilibrium for a single and multiple magnetic flux tubes in a realistic stratified solar atmosphere.
October 2013 - Teaching
This semester I am delivering a module on Mathematical modelling for third year civil engineering students. The course ends in December and includes vector and scalar operators and tensors. We deal with stress tensors and derivation of the equations of fluid dynamics. Numerically we apply some finite difference and finite element methods to solve some of these equations.
August 2013 - Paper
First Solar Physics paper published in Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society (MNRAS). An analytic solution to a single open magnetic flux tube in the stratified solar atmosphere in magnetohydrostatic equilibrium.
May 2013 - Paper
Submitted my first Solar Physics paper (MNRAS). An analytic solution to a single open magnetic flux tube in the stratified solar atmosphere in magnetohydrostatic equilibrium.
NAM 2013
The Royal Astronomical Society — National Astronomy Meeting is to be held in St. Andrews, 1 - 5 July, 2013. Registration is now open. I shall be presenting our solution to single and multiple flux tubes in magnetohydrostatic equilibrium in the solar atmosphere in one of sessions and may have a poster presentation on the galaxy simulation results.
UKMHD
The dates are now confirmed for this year's conference at Glasgow University, 23 - 24 May 2013. For information the local organiser is ku.ca.wogsalg|vetimiS.nitsodaR#ku.ca.wogsalg|vetimiS.nitsodaR or check the website: Registration now open. I hope to be presenting results on magnetostatic equilibrium of flux tubes in the stratified solar atmosphere.
