ReSoLVE Finland

I am an associate member of the Academy of Finland Centre of Excellence in Research on Solar Long-Term Variability and Effects (ReSoLVE), headed by Professor Kalevi Mursula at Oulu University 2014-2019. My responsibility as part of the solar dynamo modelling team is to advance the inclusion of the realistic solar atmosphere with the convection zone model. The long term aim of the project is to construct a comprehensive set of models from the Sun to the Earth.

Helsinki University - HPC Simulations

Applicationservices2011-1.pdf

Through the support of HPC Europa I made a number of extended visits to the Physics Department of Helisnki University to work with Maarit Mantere and have access to the high performance computing resources of CSC in Espoo Finland. In February 2011 we were granted a Grand Challenge award of 2 million cpu hours and priority access to the CSC clusters to pursue an investigation of the galactic dynamo through high resolution extended duration numerical simulations of the interstellar medium.

LOFAR Planterium

I am participating in a project to create a LOFAR Planetarium with the Chilbolton LOFAR-UK station, the INTECH Science Centre the Centre for Life Newcastle Planetarium, and Newcastle University. We are developing a programme streaming radio all-sky maps directly from the observatory intoplanetarium images.

Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics

I spent July 2012 in Pune, India with Prof. Kandaswamy Subramanian and his team working on numerical simulations of primordial galactic magnetic fields, and analysis of the role of helicity in the galactic dynamo and have continued this collaboration.
